Arts.Biz™ Ltd offers a series of workshop packages, from ongoing monthly workshops to intense 2-day workshops, as well as one-off workshops on a specific arts business topic. Workshops are interactive, and participants are given a series of in-class and take-home exercises designed to further their understanding of the business of being an artist.

Waikato Society of Arts is offering a series of workshops for artists who want to develop their talent and skills into a business and career. Arts.Biz Ltd is well known for their practical and professional workshops for artists. Many Waikato artists attest to the usefulness of the content and encouragement.Now that Arts.Biz workshops are being presented throughout New Zealand, Waikato opportunities are less frequent.

Workshop ONE, 27 May 2010 - Becoming a Professional Artist
Want to turn your arts hobby into a professional career? Want to earn a living from your arts practice? This workshop takes you through the basics of how to develop a successful arts business. Workshop topics include: understanding the new realities of the New Zealand arts scene; how to cope with the issues involved in running a business from home such as time management and maintaining professional/personal boundaries; and recognising what skills it takes to become a professional artist.Participants will leave with a personal career plan, with clear goals and strategies for developing their arts practice into a successful arts business.
Workshop TWO, 3 June 2010 - IT & U: Putting Your Art Online
Do you have your own website? Are you aware of the WSA website opportunity? Do you want to sell your artwork online? Do you what Twitter is? Are you on Facebook? Bebo? LinkedIn?The role of information technology is changing the face of business and provides new ways of creating, marketing and selling art. This workshop explores the relationship between the Artist (U) and Information Technology (IT) in running a successful arts business.With a particular eye to the WSA free-page website opportunity, participants will leave with a clear IT plan for their arts business, including what to include on their website and which social media sites to join.
Workshop THREE, 10 June 2010 - Managing the Money: Bean-counting for the Professional Artist
As you develop your arts career, you’ll begin to generate an income. But do you know what to do with the money you make? Do you understand your obligations in terms of tax? GST? ACC? Do you know how to claim home office and studio expenses? This workshop considers the financial realities of running an arts business, and explains all you need to know about how to managing the money.Participants will discuss a case study based on existing, successful businesses, and leave with some tools to help count those beans.
Workshops will cost $60 each or $160 for all three. WSA members can register for a $5 discount per workshop or $20 for the series. Strictly limited places.
